On February 2, Annie Schreijer-Pierik MEP visited her local library in Vriezenveen together with the alderman.
The Twenterand Public Library hosts a Taalpunt (language point) – a place in the library where everybody who has questions about language can go.
Annie Schreijer-Pierik MEP was particularly impressed by the meeting with the Language Ambassadors, who followed a course at the Taalpunt to learn how to read and write.
“These people are a great example to others”, says Annie Schreijer. “Good reading and writing is so important these days. Our society can no longer do without it.”
The Ambassadors know from their own experience what it is like not to have sufficient basic skills. They told how their lives changed positively thanks to their new skills.
The ambassadors were given a certificate from Annie Schreijer’s hands to encourage them to continue to train and share their story.
“What courage and perseverance do these people have. They are a source of inspiration for others”, says Annie Schreijer.
The Language Point is located in the library in Vriezenveen and is a collaboration between the municipality of Twenterand, the Twenterand Library, ZorgSaam Twenterand, ROC of Twente and Stichting Lezen & Schrijven.
